Job Description

The Clinical Research Nurse is primarily responsible for performing clinical and patient-facing tasks for patients on study, in conjunction with MD and APP providers. The Clinical Research Nurse will work with providers to identify potentially eligible patients for open clinical trials, and will meet with potential research subjects to review consent forms and discuss trial requirements. The Clinical Research Nurse will see patients during required study visits and ensure compliance with study requirements. The Clinical Research Nurse will also provide clinical perspective and information to regulatory coordinators as needed to facilitate trial activation. It is expected that the Clinical Research Nurse will spend the majority of their time in clinic seeing active study patients and will be expected to follow and evaluate 4-6 patients per day 4 days/week (16-24 patients per week). Administrative responsibilities include assisting principal investigator with protocol development and clinical trial protocol review process, collaborating with quality assurance of clinical trials, and research tasks such as assisting with recruitment and registration of patients to clinical trials, coordinating scheduling of patient assessments, monitoring test results, and collaborating with staff within disease groups and outside organizations. Clinical duties include coordinating study enrollment, protocol treatment, and completion of study requirements, collaborating with care coordination and primary nurses, providing protocol education to patients and families, completing orders and monitoring test results, providing protocol in-service training, monitoring environment of care for patient safety, maintaining evidence-based clinical practice, participating in QA/QI projects, adhering to the Code of Ethics for Nurses, fostering a sensitive environment to diverse populations, and administering medications as necessary. Professional development includes identifying areas for growth, pursuing membership in professional organizations, participating in committees, meeting evaluation requirements, and collaborating in preparing professional reports and presentations. The job requires a graduate of an accredited nursing program with a baccalaureate degree, licensure as a registered nurse in Massachusetts, current basic cardiac life support certification, 1-2 years clinical and research experience, proficiency with Microsoft programs and data management, strong interpersonal and communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
