Qualifications

• According to Civil Service regulations for laborer classification.
• Education: Standard elementary school education. Knowledge of proper cleaning procedures.
• Experience: Cleaning background preferred.
• Special Working Conditions: Sufficient strength, agility and dexterity to respond in emergency situations. Abilities to work out-of-doors in a variety of temperatures and climate conditions.

Head Custodian or Director of Buildings and Grounds


Job Goal


To clean schools and perform minor maintenance as directed by Head Custodial worker. To ensure the efficient and economical cleaning and maintenance of school facilities and the preservation of a safe environment. To strive for quality and promote pride in all District endeavors. To fulfill the Mission of the District and the school assigned.



Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

• An individual who is optimistic, who sees events positively and anticipates the best possible outcome.
• Able to encourage and sustain others' efforts as they work toward goals.
• Assists Head Custodial Worker with minor building repairs;
• Upkeep grounds;
• Maintain security of building;
• Prepares parts of building for specified function;
• Inspects lighting system;
• Scrubs and finished floor;
• Cuts grass;
• Assists the Head Custodian with supervision of Custodial Workers, Cleaners, and Summer Helpers;
• Removes snow;
• Receives shipments;
• Prepares cleaning schedules.

Performs related duties as required or assigned.


Evaluation


Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Buildings and Grounds and in accordance with Board of Education policy.


Terms of Employment


Twelve (12) months per year according to the terms established by the Agreement between the Superintendent and the Support Staff Association.
