Performance Responsibilities:
Ability to ascertain, through formal and informal methods, the reading strengths and weaknesses of individual students and report results to staff and parents. Knowledge of and experience with literacy instruction and intervention programs. Ability to flexibly schedule time to meet student and teacher needs. This would include the following:
Be a resource person to classroom teachers to implement the literacy framework and maximize the use of existing materials and resources in varied and innovative ways that excel student learning.
Design literacy professional development opportunities to achieve specific goals and purposes.
Assist with the interpretation of formal and informal diagnostic test data that inform classroom instruction. Examines data to measure the success of literacy programs and instruction.
Provides coaching, support, and strategies to teachers to improve instruction that will enhance literacy growth across the curriculum. Reviews student achievement and facilitates student support in appropriate reading and writing interventions
Assists students with lagging development improve literacy skills using material and programs provided.
Teaches targeted literacy intervention to assist students with lagging development, with individuals or small groups of students using research-based strategies and resources
Evaluates the reading/language arts program annually for effectiveness.
Provides data-driven staff development in alliance with the administrative team.
Promotes effective use of technology within the reading program.
Must be Wisconsin DPI or other state certified as a reading teacher (316) and/or reading specialist (317) or working toward these certifications
Must also be Wisconsin DPI certified with previous classroom experience. Ability to work well with students of varying abilities and diverse populations within small group and individual settings
Ability to cooperatively plan an instructional program for students identified in need of specific remedial and/or higher-level interventions.
The successful candidate understands and has experience in current practices and methodologies for teaching reading to grades K-8.
Training in CKLA, practicing Catholic preferred.
